"Calf Stretch"
"Calf Stretch" is a stretching exercise designed to stretch the calf muscles (lower leg muscles) before activity begins. To perform the stretch, step forward with one foot far enough so that that leg forms an approximate 90° angle. The stretch begins when the individual leans forward far enough to stretch the calf muscle in the rear leg. In order to stretch the calf muscle as opposed to a different muscle, the back heel MUST be on the ground and pointing straight ahead rather than to the side. The most common mistake made on this stretch is to allow the rear foot to point to the side rather than straight ahead. Hold the stretch for at least 5 seconds and repeat with the other leg forward.
